Hi All

I realize this is a busy time, coming up to TheMHS and the VMIAC AGM, but I just wanted to give a reminder that we need to carry on the work of the CC Conference.

We’ve been here before, as many of you will remember – finished a conference, agreed to get working parties established, then …… nothing.

There are good reasons for this, insufficient time, other vital activities, difficulty in scheduling meetings or travel etc.

However This subject was given a high priority at the 2007 conference for good reason, and is about what support and training is needed to give us the tools and preparation needed to do the job

So I am proposing we start on it soon, even if it is a 'bad time'.

We were trying to do as much of the ‘meeting’ on our web forum as we can, supplemented by irregular physical or phone meetings, and maybe small subcommittees of people who are working closer together geographically.

So I’d like to propose each group decide on

1 - Members - nominate yourself

2 - a group contact person - that can be a VMIAC person or even better someone else - any volunteers

3) Volunteers for organizing, chairing or recording

4) A Group title

5 The Ultimate goal :

6 Objectives :

6a  Tasks : Who does what

6b Timetables

7 Where we we go celebrate achieving our goals after!

Please reply if you are interested

Hi all,
I think Training and Education to of the one Beast ( two heads one body if you like), There seems to be some trouble forulating interest into this forum. This might be because commitment in a formal way has been ask for. I would like to suggest readers out there contribute by just entering their thoughts, Here are mine.
       Training & Education
1/ For whom: -- Consumer Consultants ( paid / unpaid)
                   -- Consumer Reps
                   -- Consumer Workers
                   -- All Mental Health Consumers
-- Public   ( all other interested parties)
2/     Sector : --  Hospital Based
--  Community Based ( PDRS, Psychiatric Disability Reabilitation Services)
3/ By whom:  -- Consumers
                   -- Clinicians / Nursers
-- Professional Net-works eg; In my area ( NEVIL, North Eastern Victoria Inovative Learning. Bouverie Centre[ Family Sensitivity Learning].
4/ Type of Training: -- A list could be drawn up that goes for ever, a good starting point is to look into your job role (Description), try to think of a main five.
Here are mine, 1/ Lisitening skills ( this is an art to be learnt)
                                       2/ Phone skills
                                       3/ Communication skills
                                       4/ Record keeping
5/ Skills in knowing who you (self) are and where your coming from

So these are things Iam thinking about, how about you,

So just wright your thoughts and everyone will take the ride with you

Thanks for lisitening Grin Grin

 Grin Hi
Dave, all consumer are out their for your support, this forum is a very good way of expressing ones-self ( don't have to use names). You only have to present your needs and Iam sure someone will be able to help.
As for resources once again this forum offers one a multitude of expertise eg Many of the Consumer Consultants work in the Hospital system, these offer their own library rresources whitch inturn may receive resources from around the world.
Thanks Paul

I certainly agree with Paul; Forums like this can be one part of us supporting each other; and that is one of the special things we survivors/consumers/whatever do - look after one another.

How many times have I heard people say that some of the best help they received in a hospital setting was from other people admitted to the ward.

But of course there are a lot of other things that are also necessary, and we also need to ensured they are available too- access to appropriate skills  training where needed, adequate physical and admin support, relistic job expectations, and the rest - things that it is not up to us to provide but which should be the responsibility of our employers.

But it can be our joint task to define these things and advocate for the, like other professional groups do,
